This policy explains what McLaughlin for AG collects when you use mclaughlinforag.com, why we collect it, and what we will and will not do with it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
The short version
We collect the contact information you choose to give us, plus basic technical data our website host records automatically. We use it to keep you informed about the campaign and to ask for your help. We do not sell, rent, trade, or lease your information. Contributions are handled by ActBlue, not by this website, and are publicly disclosed as Alabama law requires. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing contact@mclaughlinforag.com.

Who we are
This site is operated by McLaughlin for AG, the principal campaign committee for Jeff McLaughlin's candidacy for Attorney General of Alabama, 321 Blount Ave, Guntersville, AL 35976.
This is a campaign website. It is not a website of the Office of the Attorney General of Alabama or of any other government body, and it is not affiliated with the State of Alabama. It is also not a website of Mr. McLaughlin's law practice.
Information you give us
We collect information only when you choose to hand it over — by filling out a form, signing up for updates, requesting a yard sign, volunteering, asking us to visit your county, or emailing us. Depending on what you are doing, that may include your name, email address, mailing address or ZIP code, phone number, county, and whatever you write in a message field.
If you email contact@mclaughlinforag.com, we keep your message and your email address so we can answer you.
Information collected automatically
Our website is hosted on Squarespace. Like nearly every website, it automatically records technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, the pages you viewed, the time of your visit, and the site that referred you. Squarespace uses cookies to make the site work and to give us aggregate traffic statistics. We see totals and trends, not a file on you.
The campaign video on our homepage is embedded from YouTube, which is operated by Google. Watching it, or in some cases simply loading the page, allows Google to set cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy. We do not control that and we do not receive the data.
Contributions are public, on purpose
Contributions to this campaign are processed by ActBlue, not on this website. When you click Donate or Chip In, you leave mclaughlinforag.com and go to ActBlue's secure site, where ActBlue collects your payment information under its own privacy policy and terms. We never see or store your card or bank details.
To make a contribution, Alabama and federal law require you to provide your name, mailing address, and — above the threshold set by Alabama law — your employer and occupation. That information becomes a public record. We report it to the Alabama Secretary of State, and it is published for anyone to look up.
We are telling you this plainly because it is the entire point. Jeff McLaughlin spent a decade fighting to end secret PAC-to-PAC transfers so that voters could see who funds their politicians. This campaign holds itself to that same standard. Every dollar is disclosed.
Also required by law: contributions may only be made by U.S. citizens and lawfully admitted permanent residents. Foreign nationals are prohibited from contributing, and contributions made in another person's name are prohibited.
How we use your information
We use what you give us to send campaign news and event invitations, to ask you to volunteer or contribute, to answer your questions, to get you a yard sign, to invite you to events near you, to comply with campaign finance reporting requirements, and to understand which of our messages are working.
What we do not do
We do not sell your information. We never have and we never will.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or lease your personal information to anyone, for any purpose, at any price. This is not a limited-time promise or a policy we reserve the right to change quietly — it is the same principle that has governed this campaign from the day it started.
We do share information with the service providers who make this campaign run — our website host, our email service, our donation processor — and only so they can do that job for us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, if a court orders it, or to protect the safety of our staff, volunteers, or supporters.
Every campaign email we send includes a way to unsubscribe, and we honor it. Political email is largely exempt from the federal CAN-SPAM Act's commercial requirements; we follow the unsubscribe rule anyway, because nobody should have to work to get out of an inbox they did not ask to be in.
Text messages
This campaign does not send text messages to supporters. If that changes, we will update this policy before we send the first one.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, including the security measures built into Squarespace, Google Workspace, and ActBlue. No website or system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach of security affecting your sensitive personal information occurs, we will notify you as required by the Alabama Data Breach Notification Act.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email contact@mclaughlinforag.com and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from campaign emails using the link in any email. You can ask us to correct your information, to delete it, or to stop contacting you entirely, by emailing contact@mclaughlinforag.com or writing to the address above. We will honor the request. You do not need to give us a reason, and you will not get a guilt-trip reply.
You can also set your browser to refuse cookies, though parts of the site may not work as well.
Links to other sites
This site links to ActBlue, Facebook, YouTube, and other campaigns on the Change Ticket. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's site, governed by their policy, not ours.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be announced to our email list rather than slipped in quietly.
